How Eurojackpot and Viking Lotto differ

Eurojackpot is played in 19 countries on Tuesdays and Fridays, and all 12 of its prize tiers are shared by those countries. Viking Lotto is played in 10 countries on Wednesdays, and only its top two tiers are shared.

In Eurojackpot you choose five main numbers from 1–50 and two euro numbers from 1–12 for your row. In Finland a row costs €2.00. Draws take place on Tuesdays and Fridays in Helsinki, supervised by the police and a notary. There are 12 prize tiers, and all of them are shared between the countries.

Viking Lotto

In Viking Lotto you choose six main numbers from 1–48 and one Viking number from 1–5. In Finland a row costs €1.00. Only Finland has the Plus add-on, which costs €0.50. If your Plus number from 1–30 is correct, the prize in tiers 2–8 is multiplied by five, up to €1 million. The draw takes place on Wednesdays in Hamar, Norway, and is run by Norsk Tipping.

    Choose Eurojackpot or Viking Lotto and find the draw by its date in the results or the archive.

  2. Compare the numbers

    Compare the main numbers first. Then compare the Eurojackpot euro numbers or the Viking Lotto Viking number.

  3. Find your prize tier

    Count how many numbers match, for example 4+1. Look for the same combination in the prize tier table.

The official result and prize payments come from the operator, which in Finland is Veikkaus.

    Viking Lotto begins

    Viking Lotto started in March 1993. It was the world’s first multinational lottery. Today it is played in 10 countries, including Finland.

    The first Eurojackpot draw

    Eurojackpot was drawn for the first time on 23 March 2012. Euro numbers were then chosen from 1–8; today the range is 1–12.

    New euro numbers and a higher cap

    The euro number range became 1–12 (it was 1–10), and the jackpot cap became €120 million (it was €90 million). The first Tuesday draw followed on 29 March 2022.

    Viking Lotto top prize goes to Finland

    A top prize of over €4 million was won by a syndicate in Finland. The jackpot for the next draw went back to the minimum of €3 million.
