How Eurojackpot works

For each row you choose five main numbers from 1–50 and two euro numbers from 1–12. In Finland a row costs €2.00. Eurojackpot is played in Germany, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Greece, Iceland, Italy, Croatia, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Sweden, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Czechia and Hungary. All 12 prize tiers are shared by these countries, so a Finnish row plays for the same prizes as a German one. The prize fund is 50% of the draw’s turnover. Prizes are calculated centrally at the “Primary Control Center” in Münster, and in Finland Veikkaus pays them out.

Prize tiers and odds

There are 12 prize tiers, and they are the same in all 19 countries. The order shows how rare each combination is. Matching both euro numbers out of 12 is hard, so 3+2 is rarer than 4 main numbers with no euro numbers. That is why 3+2 is tier 6 and a plain 4 is only tier 7. The jackpot odds are 1 in 139,838,160, and the odds of winning any prize are about 1 in 31.8.

How the jackpot grows

The jackpot is always at least €10 million. If nobody matches 5+2, the jackpot rolls over to the next draw and grows until it is won or reaches the cap of €120 million. The amount above the cap goes to tier 2 of the same draw. So at the cap it is no longer the jackpot that grows, but the 5+1 prize. Tier 2 is also capped at €120 million, and anything above that goes to the next lower tier with a winner. There is no rule that forces a payout after a set number of draws. In addition, 9% of the prize fund goes into a multinational fund. When the fund holds more than €20 million, the extra goes to the jackpot of the next draw. The history page shows when the jackpot has reached the cap.

Questions about Eurojackpot

When are Eurojackpot results published?

The draw is on Tuesdays and Fridays at around 9 pm Finnish time, and results are published in Finland at around 10 pm (22:00). We fetch the numbers from the Veikkaus API after publication and check them against the Lotto Bayern archive. The latest draws of both lotteries are on the results page.

What are euro numbers?

Euro numbers are the second group of numbers in a row: two numbers from 1–12, drawn separately from the main numbers. Your prize tier depends on both groups. For example, 5+2 wins the jackpot, 5+1 is tier 2 and five main numbers alone are tier 3.

Where does the money go when the jackpot is at the cap?

When the jackpot is €120 million, the amount above it goes to tier 2 of the same draw, that is, to rows with 5+1. If tier 2 also goes over €120 million, the extra goes to the next lower tier with a winner. Viking Lotto has a different rule from 1 October 2026: see the Viking Lotto jackpot rules.

How do I claim a Eurojackpot prize?

Veikkaus pays the prize, not Garmond. A prize on a row played online is paid to your bank account or player account; otherwise you claim it with your receipt. From €1,000, your identity is checked if no account details are saved. A prize of €20,000 or more is paid no earlier than 3 weeks after the result is confirmed, and every prize must be claimed within 1 year. A lottery prize from Finland or the EEA is tax-free for the winner. Sources: Veikkaus rules (PDF, in Finnish) and the Finnish Tax Administration.
